Well, after lots and lots of hunting, calling, calculating, analyzing, we have finally found what we think will be a fantastic site for the reunion.
Drumroll…….
Camp Lookout State Park with a base camp at a gorgeous home overlooking Netarts Bay and some fun mud flats for clamming and oystering.
Cape Lookout is situated on the beach and has group camping, yurts (for those who prefer a solid floor and a real-ish bed), a lake, trails…among other things. It is about a two hour drive from Portland, and the house is about 2 miles from Cape Lookout. We've worked to find something that was easily accessible from the airport and which will not require too much driving on the coastal road…gorgeous, but very full of traffic during the summer.
Check out these links below. The first is to Cape Lookout. The second is to the house we'd like to use as a base camp and for those of you who would prefer to stay in a home with real beds and bathrooms that you don't need a flashlight to find in the middle of the night. J
Here's what I need from y'all:
- Your best estimate on how many nights you will stay (refer to dates below)
- Your preference on accommodations (tent camping, yurt, house)
(Special Note: For those of you traveling by plane who would like to camp, we will be working on options for procuring camping gear from friends/renting camping gear from REI.)
Mom is here for the weekend, and we'll be driving down to Portland to check things out in person before committing. We'd love to have your responses by Saturday night if at all possible. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave those here, as well. You can either email a response to me or leave a comment here on the blog.
We can't wait to see y'all this summer, and we're getting more and more excited as we search and plan! Love to you all! I look forward to hearing from all of you in the next several days.
Love,
Amy (Jonathan and Jeana)
It looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhen you're there, see if the weekly rental for the house has to be Saturday to Saturday, or if we might be able to rent it from the 3rd to the 9th so people could come early or stay a day later if that worked out best.
I think I can speak for Chad and I, that we'd prefer a room in the house, though we haven't talked it over yet.
Very exciting--thank you!
Helen
Add a trumpet fanfare to that drumroll, Amy and crew! This looks wonderful and we're looking forward to seeing everyone!
ReplyDeleteLynn and I woud be happy with either a deluxe cabin in the campground or a bedroom in the house. (In other words, we're not eager to sleep on the ground and a bathroom one can find without encountering nocturnal animals is a plus.) But I can imagine that there may be some configuring of the spaces to do, and we'll try to be flexible.
We plan to arrive on Friday, June 8 and leave either Monday or Tuesday, depending to some extent on what everyone else is doing.
One final question: How are we handling food, cooking, group or individual meals, etc. The kitchen in the house looks good in the pictures, so I assume that's one possibility. Or is this the next phase of planning?
Carry on--and send us pictures from your visit this weekend!
Love, Mary
A question about the house--is it 5 rooms with double/queen/king beds, and one room with 5 singles? Or are the singles in with some of the other beds?
